Kevin Farmer attended the Secret Coast Songwriters Masterclass at the end of February 2025. Here are his thoughts.

"The glowing testimonials from past participants in the Secret Coast Songwriting Masterclasses, continue to roll in.
Why?
Well, what if I tell you that it is a totally immersive weekend of musical creativity and brilliance staying in a beautiful house, in Tighnabruaich, on the glorious Kyles of Bute?
Not enough?
How's about if I guarantee you'll meet a group of like-minded songwriters (probably all at varying levels of development), you'll get on like a house on fire and within hours you'll be chatting like old friends, sharing songs, stories and laughing until your gut hurts.

Still not doing it for you?
What if I add in that your mentors and guiding hands for the four days would be none other than legendary Scottish artistes, James Grant, Robert Hodgens and Grahame Skinner? Well, if you still aren't inspired I reckon you may need to check to see if you still have a pulse.
Joking aside, if like me, you've fancied being involved but withered and dithered over taking the plunge - dither no more - plunge away, this particular pool of water is life changing.

I'm not going to say the Masterclass won't challenge you because in life, let's be honest, that's when we find out the most about ourselves..BUT the 'challenge' comes without pressure - and that is very important. Everyone supports everyone. Mentors and participants, from breakfast until the last glass of wine/beer/sparkling water has been consumed and the last song sung each day, are in harmony. James, Bobby and Grahame slip seamlessly between the many rooms in the fabulous Hollies' ready to impart their wealth of knowledge and most importantly their suggestions as to what may improve or galvanise your ideas. Nothing is forced, nothing is demanded, everything is agreed upon…an organic, shared experience from gun to tape.
Now, every good idea starts somewhere and the strong young oak that has become SCS masterclasses started with an acorn planted by Graeme McFall. A complete gentleman and no mean singer/songwriter himself, Graeme's calm demeanour and presence underpins everything that is great about this weekend. He co-ordinates, facilitates, motivates and in understated fashion gently greases the wheels of the operation ensuring everything runs smoothly and everyone is catered to.

Have I sold it yet?
Well…
On a purely personal level this experience has been life changing. It turns out I’ve already wasted years writing songs for, well, no-one really.
Once in The Hollies all this was turned on its head. I found my ‘voice’ and thanks to the expert help, encouragement and reassurance I received, I now feel confident to take the next step and start to share some of my songs with a wider audience and possibly get something recorded."
